Have you ever posted a Service Technician ad, waited for the flood of résumés, and all you got was crickets? Or worse an inbox full of people who wouldn’t last one day in your shop?
You’re not alone.
Right now, Service Techs are in massive demand. The best ones? They can afford to be picky. They’re choosing where they want to work not the other way around.
So why aren’t you seeing the Service Techs you want?
The Problem: Your Job Posting Sounds Like Everyone Else’s
Most Service Tech job postings are painfully generic.
They all look something like this:
“We’re looking for a hard-working, reliable Service Technician to install, repair, and maintain equipment…”
Then comes the laundry list of duties, requirements, and “must-haves.”
Sound familiar?
These ads are all about what YOU want… and almost nothing about why a top Tech should want YOU.
That’s the fatal mistake.
Because Techs aren’t looking for another bullet-point job description. They’re looking for reasons to choose your dealership over the one down the road.
And if you’re not giving them a reason, you’re invisible.
The Fix: Show Techs What’s in It for THEM
If you want to attract (and keep) A-Players, you need to flip the script. Stop thinking like an employer start thinking like a recruiter.
Here’s what’s missing from most postings (and what the best dealerships showcase):
1. Training & Development – Techs want growth. Show them you have a structured training path, paid OEM (manufacture)training, a chance to move into other positions, and leadership development that actually makes managers worth following.
2. Competitive Compensation (Without Breaking the Bank) – No, you don’t have to outbid everyone. But you do need to be competitive and offer something unique vs. The standard hourly wage, tool allowance, benefits, etc. You need compensation benchmarking based on reliable data, an incentive based program, wage increases based on pay for performance, benefits that cater to the needs of your employees and…. well, we can’t tell you all the secrets yet.
3. Employer Branding That Actually Works – Don’t just say “we have a great culture.” Prove it. Be seen at industry events, career fairs, and in your community. Post employee testimonials. Share behind-the-scenes stories. Build a reputation where Techs say, “That’s where I want to work.”
4. Smarter Recruiting Channels – Stop wasting time and money with general sites like Indeed, where you drown in unqualified résumés. Use industry-specific boards like Equip-Hire.com, built for equipment dealers. That’s where the right people are looking.
What to Do Next: Stop Guessing, Start Winning
Here’s the deal: your Service Tech posting isn’t failing because there aren’t good people out there. It’s failing because your ad looks like everyone else’s.
If you want to fix that, let’s talk.

Because in today’s market, average postings don’t cut it. The dealerships who win talent are the ones who sell themselves as hard as they sell their equipment.
